The Elder stopped and asked Alvaro to get the kettle, then he went on,“ Once I went to a big university. I needed to learn the white mans knowledge so I could tell our people what was occurring, besides the euthanasia practiced upon us. I went into a doctoral class in Phenomenology where they talked about all kinds of interesting things. When it came my time to write a paper to teach the class with, I wrote a great statement. I wrote: I prefer the perception of Being to a concept of a self. Now the professor and I had a common bond which had been mutual somehow. He looked at my scribbling and he looked at me in disbelief and with a smile he asked, “Are you going to defend this?” I replied that I wasn’t going to defend it but, I could talk about it to the class. And I did. I got an A because the professor and some of the students had peeked into the realm beyond words, a state of Being which used reflective consciousness as storage and retrieval of lived phenomenon. Most people are divided inside their “selves.’ Here, reflective consciousness in these people is used to contain an image of their selves as their internal beingness comes into collision with their external realities. How can I use reflective consciousness as an information and experiential base if I am always combatting an IMAGE of myself which I have to constantly maintain. An internally deposited set of rules and regulations of what I-should-be. Now I could go on with this for a long period of time. In fact that’s what I do. Clear the cobwebs if possible.”

Alvaro came in with a pot and cups for us and the men in the hall. "Just in time” the Elder said, “I was getting a big wind blowing," he laughed.

I didn’t laugh. I wanted to hear more. Here truly was a crack between the worlds. Robert didn’t laugh either. He and Tomas were busy writing. The Elder poured the tea and a fragrance like honeysuckle wafted in the air. We all took a cup . The Elder held up his cup and said “Saludth.” We all did the same. The tea was excellent and that feeling of rarified energy came back.

“Do you believe these things?” queried Robert.

“There is much difference between your culture and mine. Much difference  within my own culture and the knowledge of the Kivas.” The Elder replied. “We say words which we assume that each one of us understands in their absolute syntax. I can assume this is true as long as there is information which is coherent. The white man has so polluted the world by his emerging distortion that few people can be coherent with Spiritual development. A lot of fragmentation abounds within your culture, a lot of material madness. It is his fear of non-existence which rules the day and the people. It rules citizens of not only his country, but all other countries who try to stand against his rulers.”

“There is another Reality which is much more permanent than these efforts to continue his. Personal life with security and abundance. The other Reality is the world of perceptual Being, an existential Sprit with the ‘energy of creation.’ This Reality is real and just as necessary as taking care of your body.”

Robert looked at the Elder intently as he reached into his pack. Alvaro stiffened, expecting what I don’t know. Robert pulled out a thick book which looked like a journal. “May I,” he said. The Elder nodded. Robert spoke in a clear relaxed manner. “I have come to you because the keepers of kivas have told me that if I wanted answers to my questions you were the one to see. And I have many things to say and perhaps not too much time to say them.” He reached into his pocket and produced a rock which he handed to the Elder. “Do you know what this is?” he asked.

The Elder said nothing, just waited for Robert to go on with his statements. Robert didn’t really seem to care whether he had an answer or not. He went on to fill in the blanks, “It’s a moon rock.” Here he waited for the impact to hit the Elder. The Elder looked at the rock then handed it back to Robert. He simply looked at Robert as if waiting to hear the punch line.“ It’s yours.” Robert said. “ This is a moon rock but it came from a site on Earth. It came from Iceland.  Do you have any stories of this?”

My eyes had to open a little wider because I was beginning to hear things which definitely interested me.

“Yes,” the Elder said. “May I ask to what purpose the questions are raised?”

Without flinching Robert spoke, “ I have been in the middle of some events which have changed my life, forever. The world I grew up in is only a memory. Events that culminated two and a half years ago have led me on a quest for validity of certain aspects. This rock was one of the pieces to comprehend, to some degree. My coming here, I hope, will put all the pieces together. At any rate, it was worth a try.”

“The rock you hold is a piece of the moon. The moon is the child of mother Earth and the planet who hit her. The moon is a by product of this collision. But that happened a long time ago.”

Robert seemed elated. The feeling was noticible in his voice. “Do you know more?”

“When this planet hit Earth," the Elder continued, “It pushed the Earth into a larger orbit. What had been a cycle of 360 earth revolutions around the Sun went to 365 plus. Debris of another planet is evidence that a larger planet hit another one and those fragments orbit the Sun today. Or so I’ve been told.”
